"Modern quilt inspiration can be found everywhere, including in science! This quilt is inspired by a scientific test called "gel electrophoresis." The method allows researchers to separate molecules (usually proteins or DNA fragments) by size. Samples are placed into a gel medium, and an electric current is applied. Small molecules move through the gel faster, so that distinct bands form. Scientists often apply a fluorescent dye to make the bands visible; this inspired the glowing color scheme for this quilt.
The quilt is pieced in strips and quick to make, and the pattern includes tips and tricks to help make cutting and piecing long strips easier and more accurate. Showcase some favorite prints as I did here, or stick with solids to keep it really minimal!" —Sylvia Schaefer
