Modern Love, January 2018

"I recently simplified a Pickle Dish Quilt by using a New York Beauty quarter block and half square triangles. I thought I would try the same approach with a Double Wedding Ring pattern, basically taking away the fiddly lemon shaped centre and instead using Fan block quarters with some squares and strips.  After attending some lectures on minimalist design at QuiltCon 2017 I decided to play around with the layout, erasing some blocks and adding extra curved corners to others.  The result is a very modern version of a Double Wedding Ring quilt, hence the name.  This is not an entirely proscriptive pattern, I have used colour freely and would encourage you to do the same. It's also a great scrap buster!" —Jo Avery
