Get Published: How to Pitch Magazines Like a Pro Panel

Page Content:

Want to see your work in print? Join our panel of magazine experts to learn how pitch patterns and articles. In this webinar, you'll learn what editors look for in submissions, what to send with your pitch, and the nitty gritty details like contracts, rights, fees, and more. Panelists include modern quilt magazine editors and contributors: Vivika Hansen DeNegre, Kristy Daum, Linda Angsburg, Brenda Ratcliff, and moderator Riane Menardi.

Vivika Hansen DeNegre is the Editorial Director and Editor of Quilting Arts Magazine, Modern Patchwork Magazine, and related titles. In addition to writing and reading about quilts, she also enjoys the creative process of the craft. An avid art quilter, her work has been exhibited widely, and is in held in private and corporate collections. Vivika lives on the Connecticut shoreline with her husband and four children, and is a proud Individual member of the MQG.

Kristy Daum wants to live in a world where quilts are touched by child's hands and dirtied by grass; because to her it means that they are well-loved. Her work has been featured in several magazines and on countless blogs, taking social media by storm with her pixelated quilts The Tenth, and Holy Sh*t Sherlock. She designs and writes patterns not only for her own business; but for fabric manufacturers to help showcase new collections. As the Founder & President of the St. Louis MQG, she continues to share her love of modern quilting with others.

Linda Augsburg has been sewing since joining 4-H at age eight (age three if you count the unfortunate incident in her mom's sewing room that ended with a bandaged finger). She’s been a maker since childhood, passing summers with needlework and crafts. She's been a quilter since she learned to reverse engineer quilts while on staff at McCall's Needlework magazine. Linda's collected quilting fabric, craft supplies, and creative friends along her 20+ year journey in publishing. She's been on the launch team for several publications, including McCall's Quilting, BeadStyle, and Art Jewelry magazines, and developed sewing, quilting, and crafting websites as the crafts editorial director for Prime Publishing. Linda has worked at and managed quilt shops and has adopted more fabric than she can probably ever transform into quilts, bags, or pillowcases for the Million Pillowcase Challenge. Now, as Editorial Content Chief for the Better Homes and Gardens Crafts Group, she works with the smart, talented, and creative editors and artists of American Patchwork & Quilting, Quilts and More, Make It Yourself, and Quilt Sampler, as well as overseeing the books, calendar, special issues, and online content the group produces.

Brenda Ratliff is the owner of the awesome online fabric store Pink Castle Fabrics. She blogs about quilts and sells patterns at Just a Bit Frayed. Brenda is the founder and president of the Ann Arbor Modern Quilt Guild. She has a background in Sociology and International Marketing from Kent State University. You can find Brenda either quilting, cooking or chatting with friends on various social media.

Riane Menardi, moderator, is the communications manager for the MQG, and a quilter and writer living in Des Moines, Iowa. With a background in magazine journalism, she's worked on the editorial side of publications that include Fresh Quilts and ReadyMade magazine, and her work has been featured in Fresh Quilts, Stitch, Quick-to-Stitch Precuts and more.
