Rocky Road to Kansas Refreshed by Cheryl Brady, 2015

A poster of the traditional quilt block, Rocky Road to Kansas, hanging above my 94 year-old mother's sewing machine, the muddied colors of the sky and sea in Denmark, and a snowstorm in Colorado, provided the inspiration for "Rocky Road to Kansas Refreshed." When I saw the block newly interpreted in The Summer Sampler Series Anthology by Katie Blakesley, Faith Jones and Lee Heinrich, I was hooked. To prepare for QuiltCon Workshop 2015 "Off the Grid" with Lee, I started improvising 25 blocks during a blizzard using Angela Walters Legacy and Drift fabrics along with three solids. My workshop group moved the blocks around and "Voila," this quilt was born!
