What Ellsworth Kelly Taught Me About Quilting by Maritza Soto, 2015

When I first saw the "Spectrum Colors Arranged By Chance" series by American artist Ellsworth Kelly, I had to play with this idea he presented and make a quilt using the same basic set of parameters as he used - it must consist of uniform colored squares (2 1/2 inches) in the same colors he used chosen randomly and fit together so that there would be clusters of varying density graduating into white. I used no plan or pattern other than this "recipe." Using Kelly's methodology I drew squares I had cut from a bag and just went with it.
