Black Lives Matter by Karen Maple, 2015

During a prayer service in a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina, a white gunman killed nine people. After the attack, photos were found with the shooter and the Confederate battle flag. For many African Americans, the flag symbolizes treason and the worst about hate, racism, slavery, rape, murder, lynchings and home grown terrorism. 150 years after the end of slavery, this quilt represents how the descendants are slowly tearing through the fabric of racism and hatred.
