  • You do not need to use all the fabrics given to you.

  • Upload and share your photos to the Fabric Challenge Forum on the Community site here.

  • Don’t forget to use the #mqgfabricchallenge on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

  • Individual members and Guild Leaders please sign up here.

  • If you belong to a guild you DO NOT need to fill out the form your guild leaders will do that for you.

Important Dates:

♦ Fabric sign ups end Feb 28th, 2014

♦ The challenge runs from March 2014-July 25, 2014

♦ Winners announced Aug 8, 2014

Prizes:

There will be 3 winners. Each one will receive a posting on the Michael Miller blog and “A year of Free Fabric”.  Every month for a year the winners will be sent a “Goody Box”  filled with fabric from Michael Miller's newest collections.

Helpful Links / Info:

  • Click HERE for instructions on how to use the photo upload tool.
  • Click HERE for instructions on how to add a Flickr photo to your post.
  • Click HERE for instructions on how to check your newsletter email preferences.
  • You can add ANY solid or ANY Michael Miller print.
  • Each participant will receive 6 fat 1/8ths of the fabric. These are the fabrics: (you can view the whole line HERE).

  • We noticed a common mistake users made while uploading photos is to choose Private local files served by Drupal instead of the default (and correct choice) Public local files served by the webserver on the second screen of the photo upload processThis creates an odd situation where the writer of the post can see the photo but everyone else cannot. See the photo below:
  • THERE IS NO COST, This is a benefit of being a member of the MQG.

SIGN UP ARE CLOSED!

► If you are an individual member click HERE.

► If you are a member of a local Modern Quilt guild please wait to receive additional information from your local guild leadership. Check your guild's group on the community site, information might be there already. DO NOT SIGN UP ON YOUR OWN.

If you are an individual MQG member and want to double-check that you're signed up for the challenge click HERE to email Jen. If you are a member of a local MQG please contact your guild leaders.

HI Andres,

Do you have an estimate of when fabric will arrive at guilds?  Do we know how much fabric each participant will receive?  Thanks so much!

Jen

The answer to the second question is noted in the information above as a bullet point:

  • Each participant will receive 6 fat 1/8ths of the fabric. These are the fabrics: (you can view the whole line HERE).

As to the first question, I think Jen may have a more accurate answer.  Since sign-ups end February 28th, I would guess fabric will be shipped to the guild leaders sometime in March and they will distribute it.  You may want to ask your guild leader when they expect to have the fabric and distribute it.

Hi Andres

Are we receiving the prints shown?  I'm planning my project and I noticed that the upper left print is from a different collection.

And, the fabrics are so beautiful with a very soft hand!  It's easy to imagine what you will do with them!

Angie - I just did a search of "grey" in MM's website and I think I found the fabric you are asking about. It's called Star Jacks - from the Atomic Tabby's collection sku PC6317-GRAY-D.

I'm ready to get a jump start on my design, too!

Any word yet on when the fabrics will be sent out? We are so anxious to get started on this challenge!

? Are we able to use other fabric brand solid colors with the Michael Miller prints for the challenge. My guild has yet to receive our fabric, but I am trying to start working on my design.

Thank you, Starr

Hey Star! Look at the top of this thread! :-)  In the 4th bullet point down it tells you exactly what you need to know.

I see the 4th bullet point, but still want to clarify, The solid does not have to be Michael Miller correct?

~~•You can add ANY solid or ANY Michael Miller print.

jen
jen's picture

That is correct! :-)

As CLEAR as those who wrote that think it is, it is not. I've never done a challenge before and was not interested in making any unnecessary mistakes. I felt it odd that ANY solid could be used, but only/ANY Michael Miller prints could be added. Michael Miller makes solids. So, I ordered two Michael Miller solids to go with the challenge fabrics and only the white will work as the canary yellow was a terrible shade with these fabrics. A simple  "you may use any manufacturers solid(s)" would have answered the question nicely.

Thank you Jen.

I saw your answer right away but just realized I had not replied to say - Thanks :)

Oh good! Sometimes I am a little delayed in my responses because there is over 5,000 of you and just one of me! I try and communicate in every place I can think over and try and be as specific as possible.

I tried the above email link but it didn't work.  I signed up for this challenge and haven't received the fabric yet.  Has it been sent out?

We received ours.  It's gorgeous.  Our lime green fabric was the light orange though...still nice

Hi - I have looked but don't see this asked:  By ANY Michael Miller Fabric does it mean MM fabrics from the Pinwheel line?  Or ANY MM print fabric?

Christine Slaughter
Christine Slaughter's picture

It is just as the bullet point noted above states:

  • You can add ANY solid or ANY Michael Miller print.

It is not confined to the Pinwheel line.  ANY MM print.

Wow,

got my fabric! Now in design mode. Just deciding on how to showcase the fabric itself. Not a whole lot of fabric to work, it is a challenge! I am lucky though I have old old MM fabric I can incorporate into a design. I am thinking of calling it "bits and pieces". My thought is something with circles! What are others thinking?

Yay, I received my fabric over the weekend.  I am excited to get started.

I know the sign ups to get the fabric have passed, but if I was to buy my own fabric, would I be able to enter the challenge?

Are there any requirements for the photos ?   Such as one of the front &/or the back ?   This is the first time our group has entered  a challenge,  thank you for your assistance.   Jody

Andres Rosales

I don't think there's requirements but I'd take a (good) photo of the front and back (especially if the back is pieced).

Thanks for the responses,  unfortunately my photos turned out small,  I put the close up back on in a larger mode.  My hubby just flipped the back over for that photo.    So much to learn photo resizing, etc.   now i'm off to try my first hashtag on FB for this project

I'm a little confused re the deadline for uploading. This site says 7/25, but in the emails I got before the QuiltCon registration, June 30 was listed as the date. Which is right?

Andres Rosales

The deadline was changed to July 25th.

Does the back have to be made from Michael Miller fabrics?  Or can we use any fabric on the back of the quilt??

Hi there,

Just to clarify, is the precise deadline at midnight Pacific Time on 25th July?

I'm still working on my entry, and I'm afraid it might be finished at the very last minute!

Many thanks,

Donna

Ack! When I try to add my photo, I get to where it says, Embedding mmchallenge.jpg and then when I hit the submit button, nothing happens. It just sits there.

What's going on?? thanks! Lisa

This isn't about the challenge but more about my profile picture.  I have uploaded a picture to use but it isn't showing rather than a huge MQG logo.  Would you please steer me to the right "HELP" thread?  THANK YOU.

Blessings,

Sarah
