Melissa is a modern quilter, instructor, and pattern designer who has been quilting for 15 years. Her creative wheels started turning when she took a wrong turn in the middle of Cairo and found herself surrounded by bolts of Egyptian cotton in every color imaginable and as far as the eye could see. Color remains her favorite companion and she loves to create designs that delight and make the eye dance. Melissa enjoys curved piecing, bold palettes, and exploring the relationship between order and chaos. After years running a successful custom design business, Melissa started focusing on writing patterns and teaching to share the skills she's learned and the design practices that guide her. She especially loves teaching about color, foundation paper piecing, and design inspiration, especially related to culture and identity. Melissa herself is inspired by her Mexican-American heritage and the colors and experiences of her childhood on the borderlands. Melissa has lectured and taught to large audiences and small groups, at local quilt shops and fine arts centers, and has had her work shown at the International Quilt Festival, QuiltCon, and the National Quilt Museum, among other venues. Melissa loves to teach and work together with students to create amazing things. Visit her website at http://www.quiltallthethings.com for more information and past offerings.
