How To Use The Photo Upload Tool

Quick and Easy Photo Upload:

There are two main ways of adding photos to your posts: You can either link to a photo hosted elsewhere (like flickr) or use the forum's built-in photo uploader. This tutorial will show you how to use the photo upload tool.

Click the Add Media button on the taskbar in the comment box. You can add many types of media to a post, this tutorial is going to focus on photos.

Click Choose File, navigate your computer's folder structure, double-click the file, then click Upload. Finally, click Next.

On the next screen click Next (we are keeping most of the default settings to simplify the process).

Optional: You can add a descriptive Alt Text and Title Text or just leave these blank and click Save.

On the next screen scroll down and click Submit.

The picture should now be embedded in your post. Keep typing or, if you're finished with your post, click Save (or Post).

Hmmm. That is really strange, especially on your profile picture.  I'm assuming it was in a portrait format (as opposed to landscape like it is now), when you uploaded it?  Have you tried re-uploading?  I wish I could offer more as to how to fix this.  You could try a bit of trial-and-error with it by rotating it in your own photo editing program and see if that makes it upload properly.  Maybe Andres or someone else will have an answer or suggestion for you...

Do they look sideways on your computer before you upload them?

No, but I am on my iPad, maybe if I go to my desktop it will look normal.  I'll keep trying ; )

Yes, that would be helpful for troubleshooting. The site is not 100% usable from 'mobile' devices.

thanks. i needed this tutorial!  It would be nice to have a photo editor in your website like Flickr does. The photos on my computer are unedited.

I want to add that if your computer doesn't have easy software to edit photos, Picmonkey is an excellent option. Free, easy to use and you can add text on top of the photos, too. You can resize, rotate, change colours, etc. there.

From what I saw elsewhere here, a large photo had been added and the system adjusted the size to 430 pixels wide to fit the width of the comments here. If you have to edit something anyway, you can easily change the size on Picmonkey, whilst keeping the ratio intact.

I'm on a Windows Vista laptop right now and it doesn't come with easy built-in picture editing software like Mac does, so I'm using Picmonkey often. If you have questions regarding editing a picture prior to uploading, feel free to ask me and I might be able to help!

Oops, missed that thread! Well, can't hurt to mention it several times I guess.

I really dislike the fact that the site does not allow pictures to be uploaded that are more than 2mb. All the pictures I take have more pixels so they have a larger bit ratio. (The more pixels the better the picture looks when I have them printed.)  I cannot upload a single one of them.

I also do not like the fact I have to use a third party to manage my photos, just so they can be uploaded.

I'm not sure I follow. You can copy the original, resize it quickly on your computer with your own software of preference, then upload directly without any third-party anything. Takes less than a minute and you get to show off your fabulous project to people who will appreciate it.

Look at the first photo in the tutorial, you're probably clicking the second-to-last button instead of the last one on the comment taskbar.

My photo is larger than 2 MB and I don't know how to change that. There was the suggestion to copy and resize but I'm not able to copy it, let alone resize it. Any suggestions?

DHaber,

Andres posted a tutorial in the Help forum for resizing images.  You can find it HERE.
