My Way by Pamela Rocco, 2013
This quilt was inspired by the string quilts of Mary Lee Bendolph of Gee's Bend, Alabama, and was improvisationally pieced. The following books all influenced me: Gee's Bend: The Women and Their Quilts; Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt; and Mary Lee Bendolph, Gee's Bend Quilts and Beyond. Other quilters: Susan Spencer of Scotts Valley, CA, did the free-motion quilting on her longarm quilting machine. Santa Cruz, California, United States 48" x 54"

Mosaic by Pamela Rocco, 2013
This quilt was inspired by American tile quilts of the '30s and '40s. The center is made entirely from small pieces of fabric left over from quilting. The shapes in the border came from the shapes of these scraps. A number of tile quilts have appeared in quilting magazines within the last few years, but I consulted no articles or books and looked at no internet sources while making this quilt. As far as I know, it's the "child of my brain," as Harriet Powers said. Other quilters: Susan Spencer of Scotts Valley, CA, did the free-motion quilting on her longarm quilting machine. Santa Cruz, California, United States

Geo Applique Series #2 by Kayley Rose, 2014
This quilt is the second in a series of 4 quilts that explore the concept of using applique geometric shapes to create a "Modern Art Bed Painting." In this quilt my intention was minimal imagery and to use different values of the same color aqua/turquoise. I chose to preserve the whole cloth integrity of the background & each fabric chosen and give each a stage. I used applique as it gives the greatest freedom of compositional elements to create an aesthetic balanced whole. The finished effect is an abstract painting! Other quilters: This quilt was long arm quilted by Kathy Tamosaitis/ Brandywine Quilting using the Anne Bright Avocado pattern Laguna Niguel, California, United States 67" x 81"

The Definition of Stitch by Sarah Fielke, 2014
The dictionary defines a stitch as: Stitch [stitch] n. 1. a complete movement of a threaded needle in sewing. Other quilters: Kim Bradley Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia 69" x 60"

Lowcountry Sunset by Kimberly McPeake, 2014
Lowcountry Sunset is based on an improvisational quilt score from the Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters by Sherri Lynn Wood. The colors in this quilt was inspired by a sunset one night, the colors representing the sunset, water, sky, and trees. Sherri Lynn Wood provided scores for us to follow to make our own unique quilt. Charleston, South Carolina, United States 55.5" x 71"

Floating Jewels by Tanya Heldman, 2014
I started with a neutral background and then played with a color palette using different shapes and forms to come with this design. My creative process is very organic and involves a lot of trial and error to reach a design that works for me. Los Angeles, California, USA 52" x 52"

X Quilt by Stacey Sharman, 2014
This quilt is inspired by the bold simplicity of Amish quilts and the quirky quilting of Welsh quilts. Remnant and scrap fabrics were used to fabricate most of this piece which was created for Amish: The Modern Muse exhibition which was a collaboration between three SF Bay Area modern quilt guilds and the San Jose Museum for Quilts and Textiles. Berkeley, California, United States 65" x 65"

Two Rivers by Season Evans, 2014
Two Rivers is a variation of the traditional log cabin block. It was inspired by the Schuylkill and Delaware rivers converging in Philadelphia, PA, where I used to live. Brooklyn, New York, United States 54" x 72"

Stereo by Season Evans, 2014
Stereo is a variation of the traditional courthouse steps block. The quilting and the title were inspired by the noise that stark color contrasts can make. Brooklyn, New York, United States 52" x 74"

City Center by Angie Henderson, 2014
I was inspired by a quilt in Generation Q Magazine. The Art Gallery Fabric Staff had a pattern called Modern Log Cabin in the Jan./ Feb. 2014 issue that I used for inspiration. Winfield, Missouri, United States 60" x 60"
