Fragmented Circle by Elizabeth Timmons, 2015
"Inspired by Sarah Bond's String Fan templates and the Confetti Border prints in Silver, I created the Fragmented Circle. Working with a limited color palette and no direction besides the large fans, this quilt stretched my comfort limits and allowed me to work though the uncertainty of working in an improv style. Designed, Pieced and Quilted by Elizabeth Timmons (andpins.com) November 2015"

Tilting at Windmills by Susan Strong, 2015
The design for this quilt came from some block doodles I had done on the back of an envelope. I expanded on the block ideas using EQ7 and completed the quilt design. I printed foundation paper templates for the half-square rectangles (so much easier than doing the math!).

The Loops by Magdalena Langa, 2015
"Best inspiration sometimes comes on its own when you least expect it. I was lying on a couch in my house, thinking about a possible quilt design and there it was just next to me... I used simple blocks to give it a shape. Contrasting red adds a little bit of drama to the calm greys and whites."

"Colorful bricks by Karlie Grable, 2014
This is my first quilt that I have ever made. I became interested when I started watching my mother use the long arm quilting machine. I designed my own quilt and picked out my own fabrics. She taught me how to use the longarm and so I began - when I would get stumped she would help guide me thru it! This is the beginning of my quilting journey!

The Whole is Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts by Cassandra Beaver, 2015
Six separate sections of vibrantly colored violets combine to create a unified central image. Tightly spaced matchstick quilting continues the color of each segment outward to the edges of the image. The horizontal lines create a calming effect reminiscent of a sunset on the horizon, energized by a section of vertical stitching.

No Sleep Till Brooklyn by Allison Chambers, 2015
My quilt designs are often inspired by pop culture references, as is the case with this one. I thought it would be funny to make a quilt featuring the Beastie Boys' song "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," since the title and lyrics feature the word sleep and quilts are used for sleeping. See what I did there. The minimalist design for the quilt features large text on a bold background of white and curry stripes. Jessica's amazing graffiti quilting uses a moon and stars mixed in with other designs to play up the sleep theme.

Stacked by Nicole Neblett, 2015
This quilt was born of my desire to whittle down my scrap bin. I used improvisational piecing to create a background of various white, cream and tan colored fabrics and a column of "stacked" pieces of blue, green, orange, and gray. To add another element of texture, I stitched tiny boxes in the negative space to mimic the randomly stacked column of boxes. Inside the stacked boxes, I quilted straight lines back and forth to provide a cohesive element for the column.

Red X by Nicole Neblett, 2015
One night I challenged myself to make a quilt block in 10 minutes as part of the "Improv with Intent" charity quilt challenge. I used red, gray, and cream fabrics and the "slice-and-insert" technique to create a block with an "x". I liked the block so much that I decided to make "Red X," a larger version of the original block, with an additional insert in the top left corner. This minimalist quilt features echo quilting to accentuate the red X, with a section of matchstick quilting for visual interest.

Happiness by Karlie Grable, 2015
My quilt is called Happiness. I named it this because it is very colorful and bright. I found a pattern called "the Lady" by Villa Rose Designs. The fabric is from Me and My Sisters. I machine pieced the quilt top and used my mothers longarm machine to quilt it. The binding was done by myself as well!

Sliced by Nicole Neblett, 2015
The colors for this quilt were inspired by a blouse with random lines of black, cream and gold. In sketches, I experimented with the placement of lines to create slices of color radiating at various angles from an unseen center. I using large scale piecing to bring the slices to life, focusing on high contrast between the black and the cream, along with slivers of gold. To accentuate the piecing, I echoed the outlines of the slices and added sections of matchstick quilting for visual interest randomly in the cream slices.
