Fill the Void by Cinzia Allocca, 2014
Quantum physics shows us that we are all connected in this great universe and that space is not space, but actually energy. All the thoughts, actions and energy we project into the universe are interconnected. Whatever we do and whomever we meet becomes a part of us. Machine pieced, hand-quilted with Perle Cotton Thread #8, invisible Binding Modern improv interpretation of the traditional 'Double Wedding Ring' pattern Fraught with meaning for me. A challenge to piece. A joy to quilt! 84.5 x 88.5 inches

Lovely Fishbourne by Amanda Leins, 2014
Based on a 1st century AD Roman mosaic in Sussex, England, "Lovely Fishbourne" shows that we all speak the same language of pattern, which reiterates itself across the centuries in various forms. Combining ancient design with traditional piecing and modern quilting, there is room for everyone. Other quilters: Liz Haskell 88" x 88"

Eggs and Darts by Amanda Leins, 2014
In this quilt I took an ancient design motif from Greek and Roman temples and created a quilt for modern sensibilities. By enlarging an otherwise small detail and placing it off center, it becomes modern. By using Classical proportions, it appears harmonious. This quilt used Sharon Schamber's applique technique and foundation papers from Purple Daisies. Other quilters: Susan Bishop 68" x 85"

Syncopation Quilt by Jean Cockburn, 2014
During the past year, Sherri Lynn Wood, through her Daintytime blog, asked for volunteers to work on various improvisational quilt scores. I was privileged to work on score #5 for a rhythmic grid quilt. The process which was guided very gently by Sherri Lynn was challenging and ultimately rewarding. My Syncopation Quilt is the result. I emailed Sherri Lynn Wood for permission to show the quilt, and she invited me to show the quilt at QuiltCon. In fact, part of the original idea, as I recall, is that she will be launching her new book, and would like to see as many as possible. Denman Island, British Columbia, Canada 52" x 56"

Starry Eyed by Caroline Fairbanks-Critchfield, 2014
This quilt is both improvisational and organized. We know that life runs smoother with organization, and yet many times improvisation rules the moment. When designing this quilt I tried to balance the improvisationally pieced stars with a clear sense of organization in their placement on the quilt top. Even within the star blocks, fabric strips were randomly chosen from a pile for the star centers while the cream colored diamonds were a constant. We need both constancy and happy surprises to round out each day. Palm Bay, Florida, United States 44" x 50"

Grove by Casey York, 2013
Grove evokes summer's late afternoon light as it slants through a stand of trees. The hot, sour colors of the trunks combined with the long diagonals of the shadows epitomize this time of day. The placement of vertical lines of quilting in the tree trunks accentuates the sense of three-dimensional form suggested by the use of color and shadow, while the background is filled in with quilting resembling wood grain. Hand-embroidery protects the raw edges of the tree trunk appliques, but the edges of the shadows intentionally were left raw, as their fraying will add texture to the design. Inspiration for this quilt came from endlessly looking through airplane windows and seeing design on every landscape. Through Google Maps I was able to travel around the world watching the amazing patterns of the cultivated fields below. This quilt comes from an aerial view of Valle de Uco, a wine growing region in Mendoza, Argentina. I was amazed to see the shape of a bunch of grapes in the cultivated circular patterns. One of my quilts was selected for Art=Quilts=Art Exhibition 2013 (Schweinfurth Art Center) Martinez, Buenos Aires, Argentina 57" x 89"

Inspiration for this quilt came from endlessly looking through airplane windows and seeing design on every landscape. Through Google Maps I was able to travel around the world watching the amazing patterns of the cultivated fields below. This quilt is in an area of cultivated fields along the river Nile in Egypt. I decided on the blue color because of the lapis lazuli extensively used in ancient Egypt. One of my quilts was selected for Art=Quilts=Art Exhibition 2013 (Schweinfurth Art Center) Martinez, Buenos Aires, Argentina 86" x 61"

Mostly in green, I also chose some blues and browns as rice fields are underwater. Had to disrupt with China red.
